I haven't goten the chance to bid PPSMI farewell...

How do you expect would an English teacher react when an avenue to use the language within the classroom is lessened? As a future teacher of the downgraded English language, I am upset. The environment for the language to survive righthere in Malaysia is hostile since its introduction to our education system.
Beyond any doubt, the children without English upbringing at home would not spare even a mini-second to try to speak up the language in which they hardly see any value with. And, right at this moment, when Science and Mathematics are no longer thought in English, think of the impact yourself!
Anyway, I got to read this somewhere in the net. As funny and laughable as it may sound, put aside the sexually connotation it has. It is meant to serve as a kind of friendly reminder of the need to use English as the medium to teach science-related subjects. The situation may not sound as bad as illustrated though. Let's prepare for the worst anyway! No infringement of copyright act yea. Hehe.. Here you go..

Let us first attend a brief translation class here.

Hardware = barangkeras
Software = baranglembut
Joystick = batang gembira
Plug and Play = cucuk dan main
Port = lubang
Server = pelayan
Client = pelanggan

I have nothing against BM but its practicality. That's all. I would like to ask u a very simple question? How many of you often encounter a problem with finding academic, scientific book in BM? I do! Did I here "Me too?" That is what I meant by practiality!
That aside. Let us try to translate this SIMPLE English sentence with technological jargon into the VERY MUCH HAILED Bahasa Malaysia or is it Bahasa Melayu now? I

ENGLISH:
That server gives a plug and play service to the client using either hardware or software joystick. The joystick goes into the port of the client.

Now in BM:
Pelayan itu memberi pelanggannya layanan cucuk dan main dengan menggunakan batang gembira jenis keras atau lembut. Batang gembira itu akan dimasukkan ke dalam lubang pelanggan.

U may laugh but, gosh, this very fact sends a chill deep into my bone! Well, English teachers, our responsibility is now multiplied!

Or in a nutshell, my entry could be simply concluded by this phrase. "EXPECT THE BEST and BE PREPARED for THE WORST"
